pastedGraphic.pngAll crazy for the big I Love Disco party at the Textile Museum in Prato, Friday 31st May… But what are you going to wear? Which accessories will you choose to amaze and attract attention? We need a VINTAGE lesson now!

The term “vintage” is now very popular: it is highly sought after on the web and widely used in everyday language and in newspapers, not to mention the many vintage shops around the cities and markets around Italy. But do you know what “vintage” means?

The etymology derives from the oenological language, derives from the old French and means vintage wine (that is the most precious, the best, the most sought after, the most coveted!). Therefore the term vintage indicates those objects which, produced at least twenty years earlier from the present moment, acquire even more value and are considered of higher quality than subsequent productions of similar objects. Vintage is not only synonymous with old or past, but also with charm, rarity, irreproducibility, unrepeatability.

pastedGraphic_1.pngpastedGraphic_2.pngFashion is obviously the branch to which the term vintage is most often married, Vintage Fashion is now an epidemic: international stars, celebrities from the world of TV and entertainment are slaves of vintage, that past that always returns, that vintage like memory, to remember the vintage fashion made of unparalleled garments, of an unrepeatable quality, of a disarming charm. Vintage understood at times as the recovery of old clothes and accessories, used, with a retro flavor, at other times as a free and personal reinterpretation of a past but always current fashion (in short, as updating the old clothes and bags of mothers and grandmothers!).

Vintage is a fashion, a cool trend but also a way of being, a lifestyle, a cultural phenomenon, a transversal vocation.
Among the CULT ITEMS that are now an icon: the legendary Gucci shoulder bag worn by Jackie Kennedy, the famous Flora patterned scarf invented by the same maison for Grace Kelly, the very elegant little black dresses created by Givenchy in the 50s and 60s for Audrey Hepburn, James Dean’s super sexy leather jacket.

But vintage is not just clothing, there is much more: glasses like the Ray Ban Aviator, or the Vespa and Lambretta, the legendary Fiat 500 and Mini Minor, and also special hairstyles and make-up, pieces of furniture, wallpaper… It is a world to discover, which is now conquering everyone! The examples of vintage cult objects are endless, think of all those things of the past, now rare pearls, which have made history, which have marked the habits and trends of entire historical phases …
