A star has fallen: a tribute to Amy Winehouse

I LOVE DISCO will not tell you how she died, but rather how she lived. Amy Jade Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983, in Enfield, Middlesex, England. Amy possessed such extraordinary talent that she founded her first group at just 10 years old; at thirteen, she received her first guitar, and by sixteen, she was already a professional. In 2003, at only twenty years old, she debuted with her first album, “Frank”; critics were enthusiastic, and her voice was compared to that of Sarah Vaughan, whose music she grew up listening to.

Unfortunately, her rebellious and unstable character caused her many problems. In fact, after the release of her second album, she stated: “I cannot even listen to Frank anymore. In fact, I have never been able to listen to it. I enjoy performing it live, but listening to it is another matter.”

During the same period, The Independent published an article about her depression, describing Winehouse as a person who, although suffering from manic-depressive psychosis, refused treatment. In the following months, she appeared in the British tabloids due to alcohol-related issues; during a performance on The Charlotte Church Show, she appeared visibly intoxicated.

All of this would mark her unstoppable decline. Drawing inspiration from the thoughts of my friend Vincent Dee Jay, I will leave you with these words.

Amy Winehouse arrived like an August storm that disrupts everything and everyone. Unique style, power, confidence, and talent. All of us, myself included, were left speechless when we heard her for the first time. In these highly artificial, monotonous, and predictable times, she had everything it takes.”

Unfortunately, she left us too soon, before turning 28, though not without leaving us what was meant to be her comeback album… This is the sad reality; rest in peace, Amy, you are among the great immortals…
