Did music end in the ’70s?

Rolling Stone compiles the ranking of the 500 most significant records, but among the top 15, only one is from 1980 – TGCOM 24 Mediaset

11:38 AM – “Rolling Stone” magazine compiles the ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time. And while the “Beatles” were bound to be in first place with the rock masterpiece “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band“, it is immediately striking that among the top 15 most voted records, the most recent one, from 1980, is “London Calling” by the Clash (ranking in eighth place). Meanwhile, the ’70s dominate with 187 titles in the top list. Did music end in those years?

It is worth noting that our artists do not cross the border and do not appear on the list, also because the jury is composed entirely of foreigners.

The albums were assembled by the magazine’s editorial staff by combining the results of two votes. One from 2003 and one from 2009, when a jury of 271 artists, producers, and journalists was asked to choose the best albums. From this combination comes the new, updated top list.

In the super-ranking, the record for appearances is contested by three acts, with 10 albums each in the place of honor: the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones. In the ’50s, there are 11 albums in the ranking, 105 in the ’60s, 187 in the ’70s, 82 in the ’80s, 75 in the ’90s, 38 in the 2000s. And only 2 since 2010.
