TAVARES

Ralph, Chubby, Pooch, Perry Lee, Tiny, and Butch—known as “TAVARES”—were brothers from Massachusetts who grew up with the music of Cape Verde and Doo Wop.

They began to gain recognition in 1963, paying their dues in local clubs before a record label noticed them; when that finally happened, it marked a major turning point. They achieved immediate success with “It Only Takes a Minute,” “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” and “Whodunit,” but their true hit became “More Than a Woman” from the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack—the only “double” track, as it was performed by both them and the Bee Gees… Incredible!

In the following years, they continued to make music, though they never again reached the same level of success as they did during that period.
