The disco girl: the adorable Heather Parisi
The disco girl was born under the sign of Aquarius on January 27, 1960, in Los Angeles.
It was most likely her mother, a dancer of distant Italian descent, who passed on the dance gene to her. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen, she collected awards and scholarships, even dancing at the American Ballet Theatre in New York with Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Heather‘s audition for RAI took place with an improvised dance on the desk of executive Giovanni Salvi, in the presence of Elena Balestri, Pippo Baudo, and director Luigi Bonori.
Thus began the era of TV theme songs, and “SHE” would forever be their undisputed queen.
Her debut came in 1979 with the theme song Anche Noi, performed by the New Trolls on Pippo Baudo’s show “Luna Park.”
However, her true breakthrough came in the fall of 1979 with “Fantastico,” hosted by Loretta Goggi and Beppe Grillo, where she danced to the opening theme “Disco Bambina.” This song sold over a million records and remained at number 1 on the best-selling 45s chart for several weeks, as well as reaching 11th place among the best-selling singles of 1980 (the year after its release!!!).
In 1981, the showgirl achieved another great success, again with the variety show “Fantastico,” hosted by Claudio Cecchetto. The single for the opening theme, “Cicale,” won a Gold Record for its sales.
In the fall of 1983 and 1984, during the fourth and fifth editions of “Fantastico,” she starred in the opening themes, singing and dancing to “Ceralacca” and “Crilù“—Heather Parisi’s absolute favorite.
Even today, people sing and dance to her music, vaguely trying to imitate what she did… I still adore her today… and you?
