Vintage: An Exhibition Not to Be Missed
Do you have an irresistible passion for ‘Vintage’? Then you cannot miss the exhibition titled ‘Vintage: The Irresistible Charm of the Pre-Owned’ at the Textile Museum in Prato. A journey through Fashion Vintage, exploring the history and evolution of fashion between past and present. Starting on December 8, 2012, it will conclude on May 30, the day before the highly anticipated ILOVEDISCO event. For the dress code of this event, there is no shortage of inspiration: ranging from iconic pieces from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Let’s discover more about the exhibition.
The exhibition (over 800 square meters of display space!) aims to tell for the first time how the practice of second-hand clothing, deeply rooted in the history of apparel and textiles, has been able over time to confer an irresistible charm to the concepts of pre-owned and second-hand, generating a true cultural phenomenon.

A tribute to the evocative power of yesterday’s style, which continues to assert itself strongly today, among hippie dresses, vibrant colors, military garments, and denim. The exhibition aims to dedicate proper attention to vintage, which has now also become a media phenomenon: public figures, movie and TV stars, as well as blogs and social media, have contributed to promoting an image of elegance no longer tied to the new but to the second-hand piece.
Walking through the exhibition, you will see 100 historical textiles and garments from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, from the greatest fashion houses: Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Cardin, Valentino… and then the legendary patterns of Pucci, the immortal Bamboo Bag by Gucci, and the timeless coats by Max Mara.

All of this will transport you into a pseudo-warehouse of second-hand goods from Prato, supported by videos, images, interviews, and multimedia content. Therefore, vintage for everyone, from high fashion to street fashion, reinterpreting cult pieces, colors, and fabrics from the past.
If corridors filled with clothing, shoes, and accessories of all kinds are not enough, the exhibition also offers fashion stores, markets, tastings and social occasions, conferences, and other themed commercial initiatives.
The exhibition will also be an opportunity to visit the Textile Museum of Prato, the largest cultural center in Italy dedicated to the promotion of ancient and contemporary textile art and production.
For the dress code of this event, there is truly an abundance of choices—not just ’70s. Choose the Vintage that is in you, collect your invitation, and come dance to the right rhythm: fill up on disco music.
