Hard Rock Café: The First 40 Years

Hard Rock Cafés, the famous chain of venues widespread and renowned throughout the world, are numerous: colorful, rock-themed, always very crowded and filled with clothing, accessories, and musical relics.

Do you know the real reason behind Hard Rock Café’s success?

The true reason for its success is its style, its refined décor, and the immense collection (approximately 85,000 pieces) of relics from the great legends of international music, including: the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Freddie Mercury. Among the most illustrious items on display are guitars from Paul Stanley, John Lennon, George Harrison, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Lou Reed, Johnny Cash, Pete Townshend, B.B. King, pants worn by Jim Morrison and Freddie Mercury, stage costumes from Elton John, Madonna, and Prince, plus countless drum kits, gold and platinum records, handwritten sheet music, posters, playbills, and even two doors—one from Abbey Road Studios and one from 3 Savile Row in London, both connected to the Beatles.

Hard Rock Café was founded as a restaurant chain in 1971 in London. The brand then became famous worldwide thanks to the widespread presence of the Cafés, which number approximately 149 across 53 countries around the world. The company therefore decided to create a series of personalized gadgets and souvenirs. Are you familiar with the famous white T-shirt bearing the logo and the city of the Hard Rock Café where it was purchased? It appears to be the best-selling souvenir in the world today, with approximately 10 million T-shirts sold annually. Many of us now own a Hard Rock Café T-shirt purchased during a trip; it has become almost an obligatory stop (I won’t hide it—I have one too!), to pay a “little visit” to the local Hard Rock, where you experience musical and trendy atmospheres.
After forty years of existence (just celebrated) during which it has spread to major European capitals and cities, Hard Rock Café returns to Italy, where it will inaugurate a new location in Florence (in addition to the existing ones in Rome and Venice). In place of the early twentieth-century cinema café Gambrinus, in Piazza della Repubblica, stands Hard Rock Café Florence. It is the media event of the summer.
The official inauguration date is July 4, and for that day, a grand celebration is planned featuring Simple Minds performing in a free concert in Piazza della Repubblica. The concert opening has been entrusted to the expert hands of DJ Ringo from Virgin Radio, who will be joined by James Walsh, leader of the British band Starsailor. A red carpet is also planned, where guests will include Mayor Matteo Renzi, Piero Pelù, Hard Rock International President and CEO Hamish Dodds, and representatives of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, owners of the Hard Rock International brand.
A wonderful birthday for a brand that in just 40 years has become a legend.
